Testing requirements for promotion to 5th Dan Black Belt:
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of
patterns Yeon-Gae, Eul-Ji, and Mun-Mu, as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all patterns, and pattern exercises, learned
at previous belt ranks has been maintained.
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of all step-sparring formats learned at previous
belt ranks has been maintained.
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of all kicks learned at previous belt ranks has
been maintained.
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and
understanding of the following techniques;

There are no specific breaking requirements for promotion to 5th Dan Black Belt. However, it is expected that the student will perform several breaks
on 1" pine boards and/or concrete tiles including power
and technique breaks.
A demonstration of basic physical
proficiency and understanding of the Ho-Sin-Sul (Self Defense) techniques learned at previous belt ranks on both your
left and right side.
Passing the 5th Dan Written Test. This test will cover the
required knowledge learned at all previous belt ranks as well as the following 5th Dan knowledge requirements;
The pattern history, pattern diagram, and number of movements for the pattern Yeon-Gae;
The pattern history, pattern diagram, and number of movements for the pattern Eul-Ji;
The pattern history, pattern diagram, and number of movements for the pattern Mun-Mu;
The history of General Choi Hong-Hi - The Father of Taekwon-Do;
The characteristics of a Parallel Ready Stance with an X-Backhand (na-ran-hi seo gyo-cha son-deung);
The characteristics
of a Warrior Ready Stance type A (mu-sa jun-bi seo-gi A);
Training expectations for the Chang Hon Kwan Taekwon-Do
class are as follows:
Active
workouts in approximately 7-8 classes/month for at least 48
months at a 4th
Dan Black Belt level;
Active workouts in approximately 80 classes in the twelve months just prior to the
next testing; and
Students are expected to workout on their own outside of class.
Rank Promotion Testing
The actual physical requirements AT testing for a 5th Dan Black Belt will consist of a demonstration of the patterns Yeon-Gae, Eul-Ji, and Mun-Mu, as well as a Specialty Demonstration. The components of a Specialty Demonstration
are to be developed by the testing candidate. These components should highlight
and demonstrate their physical proficiency and understanding of one or more elements of the art of Taekwon-Do listed above
including patterns, step-sparring, sparring, kicking, Ho-Sin-Sul, and/or breaking.
The actual physical requirements
at testing will also consist of randomly selected elements
of the art of Taekwon-Do listed above. These random elements will be chosen by the test board, and will include: a demonstration of some lower
belt patterns; a demonstration of some step-sparring formats; a demonstration of some kicking techniques; a demonstration
of some Ho-Sin-Sul, and/or a demonstration
of breaking.
