Testing requirements for promotion to 1st Geup High Red Belt:
A
demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the pattern
Hwa-Rang and the pattern exercise Four-Direction Thrust as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all patterns, and pattern exercises learned
at previous belt ranks has been maintained.
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of Advanced One-Step-Sparring
and Semi-Free One-Step Sparring, as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of No-Contact Free
Sparring and all step-sparring formats learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the following kicks
with both the left and right leg;
Outward Pressing Kick
Inward Pressing Kick
Ground Back Piercing Kick
Ground Reverse Hook Kick
Ground Reverse Turning Kick
Flying Hooking Kick (defensive)
Flying Downward Kick
Flying Twin Foot Front Kick - 1 and 2 targets
Flying Twin Foot Side Piercing Kick -
1 and 2 targets
Flying
Outward Vertical Kick (footsword)
Flying
Inward Vertical Kick (reverse footsword)
Mid-Air 180o Reverse Hook Kick (offensive)
Four (4) Combination Kicks - different targets, different directions
as well as a demonstration
that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all kicks learned
at previous belt ranks
has been maintained.
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the
following techniques;
Vertical Stance (su-jik seo-gi)
Close Ready Stance type C (mo-a jun-bi seo-gi C)
Close Stance high Side Front Block with the Inner Forearm (outward)
Sitting Stance middle Side Front Pushing Block with the Palm
L-Stance middle Front Punch with the Forefist (obverse)
L-Stance Side Back Thrust with the Side Elbow (obverse)
L-Stance Upward Punch with the Forefist (obverse)
Vertical Stance middle Side Downward Strike
with the Knifehand (reverse)
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the following Ho-Shin-Sul (Self Defense) techniques on both your
left and right side;
At least four pressure points against an attacking partner
At
least two throws against a double-handed choke from the front
At least two throws against a double-handed grab to the lapels
Foot Sweep against a Side Front Kick
Foot Sweep against a Reverse Turning Kick
Foot Sweep against a Turning Kick
Foot
Sweep against a Side Piercing Kick
Foot Sweep against a Back Piercing Kick
as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and
physical proficiency of all Ho-Shin-Sul techniques learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.
A demonstration of basic
physical proficiency and understanding of both power and technique breaks on 1" pine boards. These will include several specific hand and foot technique breaking requirements for 1st Geup High Red Belt, as well as some from previous rank level breaking requirements. Breaks
will be selected by the testing candidate and/or specified by the test board.
Passing the 1st Geup Written Test within two weeks of testing. This test will cover the required knowledge learned at all previous belt ranks as well as the following
1st Geup knowledge requirements;
The pattern exercise diagram, and
number of movements for the pattern exercise 4-Direction Thrust
The pattern history, pattern diagram, and number of movements for the pattern Hwa-Rang
The five parts of the Hwa-Rang Warrior Code
The three kingdoms of ancient Korea
The six factors in the Theory of Power in Taekwon-Do
The characteristics of a Vertical Stance (su-jik seo-gi)
The characteristics of a Close Ready Stance type C (mo-a jun-bi seo-gi C)
Training expectations for the Chang Hon Kwan Taekwon-Do
class are as follows:
Active
workouts in approximately 7-8 classes/month for at least 3
months at a 2nd Geup Red Belt level;
Active workouts in approximately 7 classes in the three weeks just prior to the next
testing; and
Students
work out on their own outside of class on an average of 4: hours/week during this time.
Tournament competition in both Patterns and Sparring in at least one tournament
during this testing cycle is required.
Participate in three hours of community service type activities is required during
this testing cycle.
A 200 word report is required on what you have learned from Taekwon-Do other than the physical activities like punching, kicking, and self defense.
Rank Promotion Testing
The
actual requirements AT testing for 1st Geup High Red Belt consist of a physical test and an oral
examination. The physical test will consist of a demonstration of the
pattern Hwa-Rang, the pattern exercise Four-Direction Thrust, as well as random elements of Taekwon-Do selected by the test board. These random elements will
be selected to include requirements learned at this level (listed above), as well as some elements from previous belt rank testings. The oral examination will consist of random questions covering required
knowledge learned at this and all previous belt ranks.
