Step-by-Step Description of Movements:
The pattern begins when the instructor commands the student
to come to attention (cha-ryeot). When given this command, assume an Attention Stance on the X on the AB line, facing D. This is followed by the instructor stating
the pattern that the student will perform (Hwa-Rang teul).
On the command to assume the ready position (jun-bi), move the left foot to B to form a Close Ready Stance type C toward D. Remain in this close ready stance type C toward D until
given the command to begin the pattern.
When the command to begin the pattern is given (si-jak), perform the following individual movements in sequence. The pattern should be performed according to the guidelines
listed in the section on essential points in performing patterns.
1.
Move the left foot to B to form a sitting stance toward D, while executing (full
facing) a middle side front pushing block to D with the left palm.
2. While maintaining a sitting stance toward D, execute (full
facing) a middle front punch to D with the right forefist.
3. While maintaining a sitting stance toward D, execute (full
facing) a middle front punch to D with the left forefist.
4. Pivoting on the ball of the left foot, move the right foot to A to form a left L-stance toward
A, while executing (half facing) a twin forearm block
to A.
5. While maintaining a left L-stance toward A, execute (half
facing) an upward punch to A with the left forefist, pulling the right side fist in front of the left shoulder.
6. Move the right foot to A to form a right fixed stance toward A in a sliding
motion, while executing (half facing) a middle side
punch to A with the right forefist.
Perform this move in a sliding motion.
7. Pull the right foot toward the left foot to form a left vertical stance toward A, while executing (half facing) a side downward
strike to A with the right knifehand.
8. Move the left foot to A to form a left walking stance toward A, while executing (full facing) a middle punch to A with the left forefist.
9. Move the left foot to D to form a left walking stance toward D, while executing (half facing) a low block to D with the left outer forearm.
10. Move the right foot to D to form a right walking stance toward D, while executing
(full facing) a middle front punch to D with the right forefist.
11. Pull the ball of the left foot toward the right foot with both feet (about a half shoulder width
apart) facing BD. At the same time, bring the left palm to the right forefist,
while bending the right elbow about 45 degrees outward.
12. Execute a middle side piercing kick to D with the right footsword, while pulling both hands in
the opposite direction to the front of the left chest, with the left palm on the right forefist. Then, lower the right foot to D to form a left L-stance toward D, while executing (half
facing) a middle outward side strike to D with the right knifehand.
13. Move the left foot to D to form a left walking stance toward D, while executing (full facing) a middle front punch to D with the left forefist.
14. Move the right foot to D to form a right walking stance toward D, while executing
(full facing) a middle front punch to D with the right forefist.
15. Pivoting on the ball of the right foot and turning counterclockwise, move the left foot to E to
form a right L-stance toward E, while executing (half facing)
a middle knifehand guarding block to E.
16. Move the right foot to E to form a right walking stance toward E, while executing
(full facing) a middle front thrust to E with the right straight
fingertip, pulling the back of the left fingertips under the right elbow.
17. Prior to moving the body, move the ball of the right foot on the EF line (about 2/3 shoulder width toward D and 1/2
shoulder width toward F). Then, while pivoting on the ball of the right foot and turning counterclockwise,
move the left foot to F to form a right L-stance toward F, while executing (half
facing) a middle knifehand guarding block to F.
Perform this move in a spot-turning motion - method one.
18. Execute a high turning kick to DF with the ball of the right foot, while holding
both side fists up and toward DF, Then lower the ball of the right foot to F.
Perform moves 18 and 19 in a fast motion.
19. Execute a high turning kick to CF with the ball of the left foot, while holding
both side fists up and toward CF. Then, lower the left foot to F to form
a right L-stance toward F, while executing (half facing)
a middle knifehand guarding block to F.
20. Pivoting on the ball of the right foot, move the left foot to C to form a left walking stance toward
C, while executing (half facing) a low block to C
with the left outer forearm.
21. Pull the left foot straight toward the right foot to form a right L-stance toward C, while executing (half facing) a middle front punch to C with the right
forefist.
22. Move the right foot to C to form a left L-stance toward C, while executing (half
facing) a middle front punch to C with the left forefist.
23. Move the left foot to C to form a right L-stance toward C, while executing (half
facing) a middle front punch to C with the right forefist.
24. Slip the left foot straight to C, pivoting on the ball of the right foot to
form a left walking stance toward C, while executing (full facing)
a pressing block with an X-fist to C.
Perform this move with no balance recovery.
25. Move the right foot to C in a sliding motion to form a right L-stance toward D, while thrusting (half
facing) to C with the right side elbow.
Perform this move in a sliding motion.
26. Pivoting on the ball of the right foot and turning counterclockwise, bring
the left foot to the side of the right foot to form a close stance toward B, while executing (full
facing) a high side front block to B with the right inner forearm, extending the left forearm
to the side-downward.
27. While maintaining a close stance toward B, execute (full
facing) a high side front block to B with the left inner forearm, extending the right forearm
to the side-downward.
28. While pivoting on the ball of the right foot, move the
left foot to B to form a right L-stance toward B, at the same time executing (half
facing) a middle knifehand guarding block to B.
29. Bring the ball of the left foot to the side of the right foot facing D. Then,
move the right foot to A to form a left L-stance toward A, while executing (half
facing) a middle knifehand guarding block to A.
After completing the last movement, wait one move interval and then
shout "Hwa-Rang" as though it were a "gi-hap." Remain
in the position of this last move until given the command to return to the ready position (ba-ro).
END:
When the command to
return to the ready position (ba-ro) is given, bring the right foot to the left foot to form a close ready stance type
C toward D. Remain in this stance until given the at-ease command (swi-eot).
